Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed trip to Andhra Pradesh on January 6  led to many speculations about the Centre Government might announce special status to Andhra Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, But Much to the disappoint for the People Of Andhra Pradesh, Centre Government on Tuesday reiterated its stand that it is not possible to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

The central government was replying to a question by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar in the Rajya Sabha reasserted that it had already allotted special package to the state.

In a written reply to TDP member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, the Centre asserted that it was not possible to grant special status in Andhra Pradesh as it had already allotted special package, as a substitute to special status, to the state.

The Centre also cited the 14th Finance Commission and said that the report did not allow it to grant SCS to Andhra Pradesh. Now, it will be interesting to see how the party would go on in the state when PM Narendra Modi will visit the state in the first week of January.

TDP’s MP in the house protested with placards asking centre to give special status to Andhra Pradesh. Telugu Desam Party MP Naramalli Sivaprasad dressed up as a folk singer during TDP protest in parliament demanding ‘Special Category Status’ to Andhra Pradesh. He has earlier dressed up as a magician, a woman, a washerman & a school student among others.

 

Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday over various issues, including the Rafale fighter jets deal. The on-going battle over Rafale Deal between the Ruling Bhartiya Janta Party and the opposition parties led by Congress intensified on Tuesday, December 18.
