According to Centre government, more than 2,021 crore were spent on chartered flights, maintenance of aircraft and hotline facilities during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to foreign countries since June 2014.

Answering to queries on the issue in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh also listed the countries visited by the prime minister between the years 2014 and 2018. He added that they now figure among the top 10 nations from where India received the maximum Foreign Direct Investment inflows.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited over 92 nations in 55 months since taking over as prime minister in 2014, including multiple visits to some countries. While Former PM Manmohan had visited 93 nations in his two terms as a PM.

From 2014 to June 2018 the Foreign Direct Investments recorded USD 136,077.75 million, compared to USD 81,843.71 million recorded cumulatively for the years between 2011 and 2014.

VK Singh also provided data on the expenditure incurred during foreign visits made by Manmohan Singh‘s from 2009-10 till 2013-14 during UPA-II which stood at over  1,346 crore (chartered flights, maintenance of aircraft and hotline facilities).

According to the data, a total of  1,583.18 crore was spent on maintenance of the Prime Minister’s aircraft and  429.25 crore on chartered flights during the period between June 15, 2014 and December 3, 2018. The total expenditure on the hotline was  9.11 crore. The details provided by the Minister did not include the expenditure on hotline facilities during PM Modi’s foreign visits in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

The Minister also give yearly details about expenditure on Charted Planes. The cost for chartered flights to overseas destinations in 2014-15 was  93.76 crore, while in 2015-16, it was  117.89 crore. In 2016-17, the cost was  76.27 crore and in 2017-18, the expense on the chartered flight was  99.32 crore. The cost for chartered flights to in 2018-19 till December 3 has been  42.01 crore.

PM Modi reportedly is not expected to make any foreign visits next year and will focus on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls 2019.

While the Congress has regularly mocked the PM for his frequent foreign trips.
