Reports stated that a woman Tehsildar along with three others went inside counting centre two days after polling in the constituency and took documents outside for photocopying.

A woman tehsildar and three other people from Madurai went inside the counting centre two days after polling. Protests erupted at Madurai Medical college after reports of the tehsildar and three others entering the counting room.

Former District collector, S Natarajan, had submitted a report to Madras HC on the issue. S Natarajan was removed from his position after finding out security breach by the woman tehsildar at the polling centre in Madurai. CPM leader Su Venkatesan had earlier filed a PIL before the court on the issue responding to which came the CEO Satybrata Sahoo‘s statement.

When asked about the same Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said, “She (the tehsildar) actually did not enter the strong rooms in which EVMs and VVPATs are kept. She entered the Madurai West Assembly segment room to check some papers on the votes polled on April 18, to collate the data with actual votes polled. Generally, the officials will collate the number of votes polled with other data, but this official did not complete the work on the next day of polling (April 19) and instead entered the room on April 20.”

“The rooms have the presiding officers’ diaries and other papers but forms 17A (details of voters and votes polled) are kept in the strong room along with EVMs and VVPATs,” he said.
