Haryana’s BJP state president Subhash Barla‘s son Vikas Barla along with his friend Ashish Kumar were accused of following and trying to Kidnap an IAS officer’s daughter Varnika Kundu.
Vikas (23) and Ashish (27) were arrested by a police patrol team but were then left on bail on Saturday. Following the incident, Congress had demanded the resignation of Subhash Barla but BJP ruled out any possibility of Barla’s resignation saying that he should not be punished for his son’s doings.
Congress had also alleged that the police were being pressurized by BJP in order to save their leader’s son. Responding to the allegations Subhash Barla stated that “Varnika is like my daughter”. He also assured that the police are free to take actions according to the legal proceedings and the party is not putting any pressure on the police.
As per the latest updates in the case, after the investigations of 5 CCTV recordings of the area where the victim was being stalked, the Police has summoned Vikas for interrogation on Wednesday morning. If the accused fails to show up before 11 am, an arrest warrant will be issued against him.
Varnika Kundu, a 29-year-old DJ, has alleged that Vikas and his friend tried to block her way, banged on her window and tried to force her door open. Varnika Kundu wrote in her Facebook post, which went viral, that she felt “lucky because I’m not lying raped and murdered in a ditch somewhere.”
