Vikas Barla son of Haryana’s BJP state president Subhash Barla along with his friend Ashish Kumar was arrested in Chandigarh on Friday for allegedly following and trying to kidnap the daughter of an IAS officer after being drunk. Both were released on bail the next morning.

This incident is being condemned across the country. Congress has demanded the resignation of Subhash Barla saying that he should have himself resigned as the party state president on the basis of ethics and morality. However, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that Barla will not resign and it will not be fair to punish him for his son’s doings. Regarding the incident, Haryana’s BJP Vice-President Ramvir Bhatti gave a controversial statement to CNN which has sparked criticism from everyone.

In his statement, he said that what was the need for the girl to roam around so late at night. Girls should not be allowed to leave the houses after 12, after all, it is their own responsibility to protect and take care of themselves. Condemning his statement senior reporter and anchor of CNN Pallavi Ghosh tweeted expressing her shock over Bhatt’s statement.

His statement is being criticised everywhere, people are saying that due to this kind of mentality, such incidents are not being reduced and the morale of criminals is increasing. Taking on the indignant comment of BJP leader Bhatti, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon said that he is a coward. If it goes according to them, girls should be locked up behind the doors after sunset not allowed to come out. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and MP Subramanian Swamy has said that this statement of Bhatti is insulting and he will sue him in the court for his statement.
