Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday asserted that his party Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will participate in the protest during the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vishakhapatnam (Vizag). Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit the port city on Friday.

In his teleconference with Telugu Desam Party, Chief Minister said his party would support the protest called by ‘Prateekya Hoda Sadhana Samiti Joint Action Committee’ over the Centre not conferring special category status on the state and not fulfilling other promises made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The Prateekya Hoda Sadhana Samiti Joint Action Committee said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no moral right to visit the state without fulfilling the promises. The Joint Action Committee comprises of like-minded parties and groups who are continuously pressing for Andhra Pradesh Special Status.

Political parties, people’s organisations, groups and trade unions which are not part of JAC have also called for the protest against Modi’s visit. They include the Congress, Jana Sena and the Left parties.

PM Modi is slated to address a rally at Vishakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha on Wednesday held a meeting with top officials in state capital Amaravati to review the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 10 faced protests when he was in the state to address Public meeting at Guntur.

Chandrababu Naidu earlier this month sat on day-long strike against the Central Government over the Issue in New Delhi.

TDP also held several protests within Parliament in Budget Session. TDP Members in Winter Session of Parliament has made several protests outside and within the house demanding special status to the State. However, Centre has clearly ruled out the possibilities of granting Special Status to Andhra Pradesh.

The demand to grant special Status to Andhra Pradesh surfaced after the bifurcation of the state into Two Parts that carved out Telangana, the youngest state of the nation in 2014. Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Hyderabad, was also shifted to Telangana after bifurcation in 2014.
