Nara Chandrababu Naidu was re-elected as the president of Telugu Desam Party, in the biennial election held during the three-day annual gathering of TDP Mahanadu.

E Peddi Reddy, the Party election officer declared Naidu’s unanimous victory as president of the central committee. It was for the 22nd time that the Andhra Pradesh chief minister has been handed over the party reins.

Nara Chandrababu Naidu was first elected as the President of Telegu Desam Party, of the united Andhra Pradesh in 1995. His victory as the party President had triggered a split in the party, as he had replaced the founder and the President of the party, N T Rama Rao from the top post.

He has been the party chief since 1995. After the division of Andhra Pradesh in 2015, TDP declared itself as the ‘national party’ of Andhra. A central committee was put in place with Naidu as the head in 2015. This is the second time TDP has faced central committee president election after division of Andhra Pradesh.

During the three-day annual gathering of TDP Mahanadu, the party constitution was altered, giving rights to the party president to appoint or remove chiefs of the state units.

Naidu took oath as the TDP head and vowed to build a society free of inequalities.
