In a surprising turn of events in Andhra Pradesh politics, the police department has put Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Nara Lokesh under house arrest. It is reported that the leaders are under house arrest because of their “Chalo Atmakur” call.

Many leaders of TDP party have been stopped to go to Chandrababu Naidu’s residence by police and were taken into preventive custody. Some of the party leaders who have been put under house arrest are Devineni Avinash, Kesineni Nani, and Bhuma Akhila Priya. The party workers were trying to reach Chandrababu Naidu after he announced to hold a hunger strike from 8 AM to 8 PM at his residence against the police detention.
Previously on a day before, Chandrababu Naidu had given a call for “Chalo Atmakur” movement on September 11 to carry on a campaign for “saving the democracy” and “protecting the human rights” in the region.
It was aimed at mobilizing the support against the alleged violence practiced by Jagan Mogan Reddy-led YSR Congress party workers in the region, especially the Palnadu area. The area became one of the hotbed regions for political violence after the declaration of results of Andhra Pradesh assembly elections. TDP had accused YSR Congress of political violence in the region. It said that the incidents have increased since the YSR Congress came to power in May. It has also been reported that around 8 party members of TDP have been killed since then.
Recent updates conform to the house arrest of another prominent leader. Former Andhra Pradesh Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya was also taken into preventive detention by police at Novotel hotel in the state.

To counter the TDP’s call, YSRCP had also announced to carry ‘Chalo Atmakur‘ movement in Gurajala assembly today. Section 144 was imposed in the Palnadu area to prevent any mishappenings.
