Speaking to the media on Saturday, BJP’s Maharashtra president Chandrakant Patil said that the party will be holding a meeting of newly-elected BJP legislators on October 30 to elect the legislative party leader.

Chandrakant Patil had won from Kothrud constituency in Pune city. He said, “BJP has called legislative party meeting on 30 October to elect its leader in the house. All 105 MLAs will attend the meeting“. (ANI source)

The comments came after the announcement of recent state elections in which BJP secure the maximum number of seats. Saffron party contested the election in an alliance with Shiv Sena which was only able to bag 56 seats.

It has also been reported that Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik had insisted on a written assurance from the BJP regarding the implementation of 50:50 formula in the formation of the next government in the state. The Sena can be seen actively rooting for the appointment of 2 Chief Minister for 2.5 years each. The formula was given by Union Minister Amit Shah during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Replying to this, he said that the final decision on government formation would be taken by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. He further added that “Everyone has the right to express (their views).”
