Karuna Shukla, a former BJP MP has decided to contest the Chattisgarh election from Rajnandgaon constituency. Shukla is the niece of former PM Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

According to the sources, the state Congress  confirmed that the screening committee  had recommended the name of Mrs Karuna Shukla to take on chief minister of state, Raman Singh. The Congress had not revealed the name for Rajnandgaon Constituency when it had released the first list of Candidates.  The decision would be announced once the Congress central election committee approves the name.

Karuna Shukla was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha from Janjgir constituency. She lost the 2009 elections to Congress candidate Dr Charandas Mahant. She also alleged that after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee left active politics the BJP side-lined her following which she quit the BJP. Since then she has been a quiet open in criticizing Raman Singh government. She also said that “the party is overshadowed by those in power and the government” and joined the Congress.
