On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Chennai Central Railway Station would be renamed after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachadran.

He made the announcement at an NDA political rally in Tamil Nadu, speaking at a rally at Kilambakkam, in Kanchipuram district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Tamil Nadu to officially initiate the poll campaign of National Democratic Alliance ,for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

PM Modi announced that the Chennai Central Railway Station would be renamed after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.

However ,it is unclear whether this change of name can be done with General Elections about to be announced in any coming date.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, BJP state chief Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan were present in the meeting along with the PM.

The PM praised MGR and said that he had visited MGR’s birth place in Sri Lanka.

He added,”We are also seriously considering that flights to and from Tamil Nadu will have inflight announcements in Tamil”

The promise of in-flight Tamil announcements were also made by the PM.

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of 5 National highway projects worth Rs 5,010-crore in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Previously, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways tweeted,”Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stones for five National Highways projects worth Rs 5,010 crore in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu tomorrow (Wednesday).”

Also the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that these projects are going to benefit by means of reduced carbon footprints, fast and safe journey, reduced travel time, and fuel saving.
