The Congress is likely to declare the names of candidates in Chattisgarh for the first phase of the polls today. 18 of the 90 assembly seats are going to polls in Phase I of the Chhattisgarh Assembly Election. In Chhattisgarh, a screening committee had held a meeting on Wednesday to choose the names of candidates provided by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee which will be handed over to the CEC for the final selection.

The Congress party in the state has also launched a video, called “Raman ka Ulta Chashma” on Thursday targeting the ruling BJP. The movie is aimed at showing the government’s apathy to the problems and issues in the state.

Recently rumors were doing the rounds regarding infighting in the party. The video also intends to show that Congress stands united against the government and will work towards the welfare of the people. Party chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said the Congress was as united as ever. “Even when working presidents were announced, these allegations did the rounds, but with time people realized there was no truth to them,” he said.

As the last date of filing of nomination is October 23 BJP is also set to announce its candidates next week. 18 of the 90 Assembly seats which is set to go to polls on November 12, includes constituencies in the left wing extremism-affected Bastar range and Rajnandgaon district. The second phase of polling is on November 20.

The AICC on Thursday also announced a Core Committee of the Pradesh Congress Committee, which includes AICC General Secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh PL Punia, Bhupesh Baghel, TS Singhdeo, Charan Das Mahant, Arvind Netam, Kamla Mahar and Tamradhwaj Sahu.
