Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Monday won trust vote through a voice vote in Karnataka Assembly. While the Karnataka Assembly also passed the Finance Bill by voice vote. There were no votes against the Finance Bill in the House.

Taking to Twitter, Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa said his government will be stable and transparent. ‘Winning the trust vote is, taking one more step closer towards a stable and strong administration. Will uphold the trust by ensuring transparent and accountable governance. I would like to thank the citizens, MLAs and each and every BJP Karyakartha for the trust placed in me’, said BS Yeddyurappa in a tweet.

While earlier in the day, speaking in the house, Congress legislature party (CLP) leader SG Siddaramaiah slammed BS Yeddyurappa saying that he has never been a Chief Minister with a mandate.

Siddaramaiah, as quoted by ANI, ‘Unfortunately, Yeddyurappa has never been Chief Minister with people’s mandate. Where’s the mandate? You didn’t have it in 2008, 2018 or even now. When he took an oath there were 222 MLAs in House, where did BJP have 112 MLAs for a majority? They had 105 seats. That is not mandate’.

Raising questions on the stability of the government and opposing the confidence motion, Former CM Siddaramaiah said, ‘We hope you (BS Yediyurappa) will be a chief minister but there is no guarantee of that. You are with the rebels, can you give a stable government? It’s impossible! I oppose this confidence motion because the reason is this government is unconstitutional and immoral’.

While Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also opposed the confidence motion in the Vidhana Soudha. Speaking in the house, HD Kumaraswamy also raised questions on the stability of the government. He said, ‘BJP has left the dissenting and rebel MLAs on roads. Since last week I have been seeing all the developments. Speaker’s decision sends a strong message. He didn’t act in a hurry. He looked into the matter very carefully and looked into each case.’

However, he added that his government will not try to topple the government. Speaking in the house, Kumaraswamy said Power is not permanent, even for Narendra Modi and JP Nadda. We will not try to bring down your number from 105 to either 100 or lower’.

The disqualification of 14 more rebels on Sunday by speaker, 11 from Congress and 3 from Janata Dal (Secular) from the House, reduced the majority mark making it a cakewalk for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to prove its majority.

With the quick turn of events and disqualification of 17 MLAs, the effective strength in 225-member assembly is now 207, leaving the Assembly Speaker. The magical majority mark in the state was 104.

BJP has currently 105 MLAs in the House while it also has support from some independent lawmakers.
