Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily upon the Congress party and the Nehru-Gandhi family that has been ruling it, during an election rally in Pudduchery yesterday.

Modi asked people of Pudducherry to compare his government’s 48 months in power with the 48 years that Congress party has been ruling India and judge for themselves as to who has achieved more development in the state and in the country in general.

Apart from blaming Congress party itself, the Prime Minister attacked members of the Nehru-Gandhi family specifically by stating that they have been responsible for India not having become a developed country even after six decades of independence.

He said India’s first Prime Minister (Jawaharlal Nehru) ruled for 17 years, while his daughter (Indira Gandhi) was at the helm for 14 years, following which her son Rajiv Gandhi was the PM for 5 years. Even after that, Modi said, the family (via Sonia and Rahul Gandhi) governed the nation through a “remote control” when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister for ten years till 2014.

Despite so many years in power, the family has kept India behind many other countries that attained independence before us, said Modi. He also slammed local Pudducherry parties for meting injustice to the state by keeping in lagging behind other regions of the country inspite of being resource surplus.
