Congress party announced on Sunday that it would launch its membership drive for Telangana state from Mahabubnagar district on September 15.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced the party’s decision at a press conference and said that the step has been taken while confirming with the high command of the party. The press conference also saw the presence of All India Congress Committee Telangana in-charge R C Khuntia and Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Slashing out at the Bhartiya Janta Party’s demand to declare September 17 as “Hyderabad Liberation Day”, N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the saffron party is misleading the public on the issue. He urged Ram Madhav to read the history before distorting the facts. He said that the party played no role in unifying the city of Hyderabad with Union of India. Reddy, while speaking to the media, said, “It was the Congress which merged Hyderabad with the Indian Union in 1948 and the same party granted statehood for Telangana in 2014.”

Previously, Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy reiterated his party’s demand on Sunday calling to declare September 17 as Hyderabad “Liberation Day”.

N Uttam Kumar also slammed the current TRS government for the ‘shortage’ of urea. He also alleged that farmers are not given benefits. The leader also alleged that the public health system in the state has collapsed down. For this, he instructed his party officials to visit District hospitals to observe and inspect the health facilities for poor people. The party is also expected to conduct an investigation of irrigation projects in the state and prepare a report.

It is also expected that the Congress party would organize state-wide protests on September 11 to protest against the unfulfilled demands.
