In the wake of upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, Congress Party has appointed Rameshwar Oraon as a new State President. The grand old party constituted a screening committee to oversee the preparation of Jharkhand polls.

In the screening committee, TS Singh Deo has been appointed as the Chairman. He is the minister from Chhatisgarh. The screening committee includes General Secretary Incharge of the state RPN Singh, state party chief Rameshwar Oraon, Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh, party secretary Saleem Ahmed, and Congress Legislative Party leader Alamgir Alam.

The screening committee will finalize the list of candidates for the assembly polls and will make its suggestions to the party’s Central Election Committee.

 

Rameshwar Oraon was made the President of Jharkhand unit. He is a retired IPS officer and former Union minister. The party also appointed five working presidents for the State. The appointed Chiefs are Kamlesh Mahto, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Thakur, Manas Sinha, and Sanjay Paswan. The presidents have been made considering the representation of all sections of the society in the state. It has representation from minorities, SC, ST, OBC, and also general caste.

The appointment of President for the Jharkhand unit was necessitated by the resignation of former President Ajoy Kumar. He had resigned on August 9 due to the indulgence of party members in corruption. Ajoy Kumar had sent his resignation letter to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. He had pointed out at some party members for putting their self-interest over the party’s ideals.

While the Congress party has appointed new chiefs to Jharkhand unit, It dissolved the office bearers of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. However, the party retained its President and working presidents for the state. Niranjan Patnaik is the current President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.
