As confusion over Rahul Gandhi’s resignation continues, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on Tuesday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his residence in the national capital. Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and Party General Secretary KC Venugopal were also present in the meeting.

This came days after Rahul Gandhi offered to resign in CWC Meet on Saturday taking moral responsibility of the party’s poll debacle in the recently held national polls. However, the Congress Working Committee unanimously rejected the resignation of Rahul Gandhi from Top Post and rather ask him to overhaul the party structurally.

Reportedly despite Gandhi’s resignation was rejected by the CWC, now an MP from Wayanad is said to be unfazed. Many Senior Leaders have tried to convince him and requested him not to tender resignation. Leaders believed that the party cannot afford to have a new leader at the core at this time to build party organizationally.

Earlier on Monday, Congress Leader Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal met Rahul Gandhi and asked him to continue as a party top post.

The Congress had on Saturday held its Working Committee meeting to discuss the reasons responsible for its poor performance in the recently held national polls 2019.

The Congress won 52 seats in the recently held polls, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. However, it has lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party in the latest polls has secured 303 seats, 22 more than it got in the 2014 elections. BJP along with its allies, the NDA took it’s tally up to 352 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
