Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi is hosting a lunch for all the opposition parties on Friday, 26 May. The Friday meeting is converted into an occasion for ‘social bonding’ of Opposition leaders over lunch, to ensure attendance of warring Left and Trinamool leaders together for the occasion.

The three main agendas of the meeting are, to come up with a person with demonstrated commitment to constitutional principles to be the next President, they expect the government to take initiative for a consensus on such a candidate and failing which they will field a joint Opposition candidate against the NDA’s nominee.

Also, AICC spokesperson Anand Sharma, while addressing the media on Thursday, demanded that the government come out with a white paper on the state of the Indian economy. He also demanded, GDP numbers, both on old series and the new series, of 10 years of UPA regime and that of this government’s three years on key sectors. Congress also demanded that the government make public names, addresses and locations of Indians who have been provided jobs in three years of the Narendra Modi government.

Anand Sharma also charged, that the government was “spending crores on propaganda blitz” while “every key sector is showing decline on the bases of economy, registering a flat growth. He also alleged that India’s image has been affected under BJP rule, be it in sectarian violence or incidents involving cow vigilante groups etc. He also informed that the Congress disapproved a meeting of activists, including party’s former MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, with separatist leaders of J&K.
