Congress eyeing to replace Kamal Nath with new state party chief for MP; Sonia Gandhi aims for ‘consensus’

Madhya Pradesh Congress is on the verge of seeing a major reshuffle in its organization as the Congress party is looking to elect its new party chief. Presently, Kamal Nath is the state’ party chief.

With his recent induction to the Chief minister post in 2018 and addition of several senior leaders from the party into the state cabinet, Congress party is looking to reorganize the major command in the state.

It was reported that Jyotiraditya Scindia was having an internal struggle with the Congress hierarchy over the top post, but Kamal Nath cleared all the rumors after his meeting with Sonia Gandhi. It was widely reported that Jyotiraditya Scindia is distancing from the party’s ideals when he was seen supporting Article 370 scrapping openly. However, Kamal Nath told reporters that he doesn’t think that Jyotiraditya Scindia is unhappy about any decisions.

Further elaborating more about his discussion with Sonia Gandhi, the minister told that they discussed the organisational situation of the party in Madhya Pradesh. There exist three factions in the Madhya Pradesh Congress, led by Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Now Sonia Gandhi is looking at the prospective candidates for the state party’s top post. It has been reported that the interim President is also counting on the ‘consensus’ for the candidate’s name.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has been recently appointed as the Chairman of the party’s screening committee in Maharasthra. However, there is no common name announced regarding the decision of Madhya Pradesh. A top leader form party was reported saying, “There is no clarity right now on any single name. It is not about whether the leader should be young or old. Sonia Gandhi is looking at someone who can take the party along. That really is the priority right now.”
