Congress Party has approved the candidature of Hardeepak Nishad in the upcoming by-poll elections of Uttar Pradesh. Hardeepak will be fielded from Hamirpur constituency.

Hamirpur constituency is slated for by-poll as its former leader Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel (Bhartiya Janta Party candidate) was convicted in a murder case. Hamirpur seat will go to by-poll elections on 23 September. Counting of votes will take place on 27 September.

An official statement from the Congress party read “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Hardeepak Nishad as Congress candidate for the ensuing by-election to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from Hamirpur Constituency.”

According to the sources, Congress candidate is expected to give a tough fight against Samajwadi Party candidate Manoj Kumar Prajapati.

According to the notification of Election Commission of India, by-elections are due in 13 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. However, the election watchdog has only announced the date for Hamirpur seat.

Previously, senior party leaders of the state met Priyanka Gandhi and briefed her about the organizational issues of the party.
