Mallikarjun Kharge

Just days after Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party moved no-confidence motions in the Lok Sabha against Narendra Modi’s BJP-led government, the Congress party has decided to follow suit now and bring in a motion of their own when the Parliament resumes business next week.

Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge yesterday wrote to Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan requesting her to include his party’s no-confidence motion against the government on the list of business scheduled for Tuesday.

This development occurred right after a Congress meeting in which the party decided to put pressure on the government by supporting motions proposed by TDP and YSRCP, and also moving a motion of their own.

Reports suggest that Congress has taken this step to enable Mahajan to take up a trust vote, which has not been happening yet because she has been adjourning the House repeatedly owing to loud protests by AIADMK and TRS members, leading to chaos and disruption of business.

Congress has also directed all its MPs to be present in Lok Sabha next week when crucial no-confidence motions could come up for voting. The Parliament will resume functioning on Tuesday instead of Monday now due to the occasion of Ram Navmi.
