Ahead of Delhi assembly polls, Congress party appointed Subhash Chopra as the chief of its Delhi unit on Wednesday. Along with him, Ex-BJP leader Kirti Azad was made the chief of the campaign committee of Delhi Congress.

Subhash Chopra is a three-time MLA from Kalkaji seat. He has areputed image in Congress and had previously served as DPCC chief before, during the chief ministership of Sheila Dikshit. As quoted by IANS, he said, “We have known each other for long and the city has also experienced the transformation under the Congress rule.”

All the appointments have been cleared by Interim Congress president, Sonia Gandhi.

Kirti Azad had left the saffron party in February to join Congress. Subhash Chopra will fill the vacuum left by the untimely demise of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Sheila Dikshit had passed away in July this year.

In another appointment, M Okendro was made the new president of Congress party’s Manipur state unit. He will be replacing Gaikhangam.

Delhi Congress spokesperson Jitender Kochar expressed his happiness over the appointment of Chopra and said that the decision has also made party workers very happy. Speaking to the IANS he said, “All the leaders have welcomed the decision as Chopra can take everyone together. Such a face was the need of the hour for the Delhi unit of the Congress.
