With two deadlines missed for the Yatra to take place in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress party decided to kick-off the Yatra today. In the presence of more than 60 sadhus and congress leaders, the ‘yatra’ began from Kamtanath temple in chitrakoot of Satna District, Madhya Pradesh. The yatra is aimed at tracing the route taken by Ram when he was on his way to exile. The yatra kick started amidst heavy chanting of ‘mantras’ and ‘shlokas’ with congress party workers and local leaders in attendance.

The Congress yatra was earlier planned on September 23 and later on September 27 but was delayed due to various reasons. As the model of conduct will be implemented soon in the state, congress did not want to take any chance.

With senior leaders like Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia unable to make it to the rally owing to their other engagements, the 33-member committee decided to take out the yatra from Tuesday, said Yatra convener Harishankar Shukla toThe Indian Express. He also said the yatra was likely to end on October 15 at Chitrakoot.

This yatra is likely to be seen as the Congress’ attempt to highlight the BJP government’s inability to fulfill the promise of tracing and developing the mythological route Of Ram to his exile which it made when it had come to power.

The congress party has assured people that they will complete the unfulfilled job of BJP
