Taking cue from the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Congress party has decided to use the strategy of booth level campaigns again. Although some people do not see it as a credible attempt, the leadership believes that this could prove to be an impactful strategy. The Congress party is eyeing to work on the grassroots level to spread its vote base and fight the BJP.

Coming October 2, the Congress party is going to launch its fundraising campaign by going door-to door and connect with the voters while asking them for some financial help.

The state of Karnataka is going to launch a program called, Lok Sampark on October 2, across its 56,696 booths. The party aims to enroll one crore booth coordinators. Every booth coordinator will be visiting at least 20-25 homes to establish a personal connection with voters. The Congress’ move could be similar to the BJP’s page-pramukh plan which also aims at creating a relationship with voters on the ground level.

The Congress has also decided to take the support of NGOs whose ideas are similar to that of the party and it will be supervised by an area booth co-ordinator appointed for every 100booths. This initiative aims to enroll the first time voters and gather the information.

The Deccan Herald quoted MLC Rizwan Arshad as saying, “At many places, booth-level committees did not yield results because they were not properly utilized. Now, the phone numbers of booth coordinators will be part of a mechanism through which senior party leaders can engage with them”.
