Hours after resigning, Congress Spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi joined Shiv Sena in Mumbai after meeting party Chief Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray. Speaking in the Press Conference called on the occasion’ of her joining an event, ‘I know I will be held accountable for my past statements and my views and that how I came to this conclusion but I would like to say that this decision of joining Shiv Sena I have taken after a lot of thought’.

Speaking to the media, Chaturvedi said, ‘However, I was hopeful of a ticket from Mumbai, but my resignation has nothing to do with this’, she added while referring to Mathura Incident.

Priyanka Chaturvedi had earlier in the day resigned from Congress after the party has reinstated Mathura leaders who had misbehaved with her.

Party general secretary of the UPCC, vice president of the Congress committee in Mathura and a former MLA candidate among others were suspended by the party after Chaturvedi filed a complaint against them. Chaturvedi was addressing a press on Rafale Case in Mathura when the whole incident happened. However, their suspension was revoked after UP West General Secretary intervene.

Chaturvedi had on April 17 took to Twitter and had slammed the Congress for revoking the suspension. She tweeted, ‘Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get preference in over those who have given their sweat & blood. Having faced brickbats & abuse across the board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate’.

She had on Thursday written to Congress president Rahul Gandhi announcing her resignation from the party. In a two page letter to AICC Chief, Chaturvedi said, ‘In the last few weeks certain things have convinced me that my services are not valued in the organization and that I have reached the end of the road.’

She added, ‘What saddens me is that despite the safety, dignity, empowerment of women being promoted by the party and has been your call to action the same is not reflected in the action of some of the members of the party.’

Reportedly, she was willing to contest the polls from Mumbai Lok Sabha Seat. She was also eyeing Mathur Lok Sabha Seat.

Chaturvedi exit from the Congress is seen as a big setback for the party in the middle of national elections 2019.
