Jharkhand Mukti Morcha working President Hemant Soren meeting with Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday has sealed the alliance in Jharkhand for Lok Sabha Polls 2019 to take on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) at Centre. Sources familiar with the meeting said the two has also finalized their alliance for Assembly Polls that are slated later this year after General Elections to Lok Sabha.

Congress State Leader RPN Singh who was also present in the meeting later shared the picture in his Twitter Handle with ‘Alliance is sealed’.

It has been decided that the Congress will lead the alliance and contest a greater number of seats from the state in the Lok Sabha polls, while the JMM will lead the alliance and do the same in the assembly elections,” said Rajesh Thakur, media in charge, Jharkhand Congress.

The past Alliance of JMM and Congress split after 2014 State Polls.

According to a senior leader, who was privy to discussions held at Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Thursday, the Congress would contest seven, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) four, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) two and RJD one of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

However, JVM Chief Babulal Marandi seems unhappy with the seat-sharing pact in which his party has only got two seats. He made it clear that he “did not agree” with the “framework” that was being reported in the media, but clarified that he was yet to hear from the Congress formally- who is set to lead the Grand Alliance in Jharkhand in Lok Sabha Polls 2019.

Congress sources said that the CPIML-Liberation had to be dropped from the alliance due to the JVM’s insistence on the legacy seat in Koderma.

Congress has registered a resounding comeback in the state in December last year with a victory in State By-election that was held in Kolibera Assembly Seat. With the victory, Congress will increase its tally to eight in the 82-member House.
