Usually, the management of the Delhi University Students Union polls (DUSU) were left on the shoulders of the student leaders in the campus. But this time Congress has centrally decided to take the responsibility of managing the elections.

Freshly rejuvenated with the victory of Congress candidate Ahmed Patel in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha polls, the party is now feeling energetic and is trying to get back on track again. After securing the fifth term for Patel the party’s next target is the DUSU polls. The party has not seen much success from past four years in the campus. Therefore it has deputed Oscar Fernandes, Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken to micro manage the elections.

The party’s leaders have sent teams to interact with students across campuses in north, south and outer Delhi colleges. They will be holding meetings with students of different colleges, listening to the problems and issues faced by them. It has planned the campaign with the aim of ‘Take back DU’.

The party has hired a professional agency to work out the campaign. These agencies will run the campaign on media targeting the audience with hard hitting slogans and speeches. A senior Congress leader informed that the hired agencies have been tasked with managing WhatsApp groups and Facebook with special messaging. The campaign will be run all over the social media. “For us, every victory counts,” the senior leader said in his statement to ET.
