As Congress is aggressively planning and preparing for the assembly polls, Congress general secretary in-charge of Gujarat Ashok Gehlot said that now party will be adopting its age old strategy to win the polls.

In his statement to ET Ashok Gehlot said that, the party will not project the Chief Ministerial face and for the time being only concentrate on connecting with the voters through grass-root Congress workers at every booth. He told that after being in opposition for almost two decades now, the party plans to go with its age old election strategy in poll-bound Gujarat. He also added that no help from any outside strategist will be seeked and alliance with like minded parties is likely.

He further said that, if any NGO or social organisation wants to lend a helping hand to dethrone BJP, they will be most welcomed, but there is no chance of involving any political strategist. “We are going completely local. That is what people want – our party leaders and workers.” Gehlot said. He also mentioned that PK, who has been helping BJP and Modi, if realises his mistake and want to come and help Congress he is more than welcome.

Unemployment, widespread closure of industries, lack of investors and the farce of Vibrant Gujarat, are the main political issues Congress is trying to focus on to connect with the people. Many such other issues will also be involved in the party’s campaign, which will be carried forward through social media, audio visual and print.
