The Indian National Congress on Thursday won the elections in Ramgarh, in Alwar district of Rajasthan. With this, now Congress has now 100 seats in the 200 assembly seat of the State. Congress candidate Shafia Zubair garnered a total of 83311 votes. BJP’s Suwant Singh garnered 71083 votes. A high voter turnout was recorded on Monday.

After her victory, Congress Candidate Shafia Zubair said ‘People know that we believe in working”. She won with a margin of 12228 votes, garnering a total of 83311 votes’.

While conceding defeat, BJP’s Suwant Singh alleged that BSP spoiled his chances of winning the seat. “The BSP damaged the BJP and cut into our votes”.

BSP Candidate Ku Jagat Singh secured over 24 thousand votes.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said peoples have sent a message ahead of Lok Sabha 2019 Polls. He said, ‘I’m happy that people took a well-meditated step. They’ve taken the right decision. I thank them&express my gratitude. They’ve given a message at a time when it was much needed. It’ll encourage the party ahead of Lok Sabha election.

Voting in the Ramgarh seat was postponed following the death of the BSP Candidate on the seat. Following the death of BSP Candidate Laxman Singh, the CEO has postponed the polls in the seat and Rajasthan went onto polling for 199 seats instead of 200. Rajasthan Polls: Polling Postponed in Alwar’s Ramgarh after the death of BSP Candidate

In December last year, Congress unseated BJP’s Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan Assembly Elections and registered a comeback by winning 99 seats out of 199 in the 2018 Assembly elections. The final tally saw BJP finishing second with 73 seats, CPI-M 2, BSP 6, Independents 13 and others 6.

Short of a majority by a seat, Congress has received support from RLD who have secured one seat in the state. On Wednesday, BSP supremo Mayawati also extended its support to Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Samajwadi Party also said to support Congress in Madhya Pradesh.
