A CPI(M) delegation met the DGP in Tripura on 4th March. The party complained of violence against its party’s workers after the election results were announced.

The incidents were reported in various parts of the state, Bishalgarh, Amarendra nagar, Mohanpur, Sabroom, Melagarh, Khowai, Jirania, Khomlung, Belonia, Ramnagar, and South Ramnagar. In the light of these events, the party members met with DGP Akhil Kumar Sharma to discuss the incidents. The delegation was led by Shankar Prasad Datta. They said many party cadres were injured. The CPI(M) delegation, therefore, asked for adequate security, patrolling and the arrest of those responsible.

Mr Shukla promised action to the delegation. The incidents were said to have occurred in the spirit of celebrating BJP’s victory. It was confirmed by the police that party officials suffered minor injuries. Shankar Prasad Datta said the situation was grave. CPI(M) claimed 200 cases of violence since March 3rd. The BJP top leaders in the state also made calls for calm and peace. The creation of an atmosphere of violence spells disturbance for BJP’s run in the state. Days into the declaration of results one would expect a happy state in the form of Tripura. But, if BJP doesn’t watch its moves and the moves of the party followers, their rule may be filled with complaints. Hopefully, they reach the day of the swearing-in ceremony in relative peace.
