Violence in the state targeted Hindus, said Chander Wadhwa, a council member of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India, to Home Minister, Rajnath Singh. Along with Wadhwa, a group of people, which included retired army generals, ambassadors and judges met Rajnath Singh. this group included Justice (retd) SN Dhingra, former Delhi commissioner of police RS Gupta, former Sikkim DGP RK Handa, Maj. Gen. (retd) Dhruv Katoch and former ambassador Vidyasagar VermaThey sought for his arbitration to bring back the order in the riot-affected areas of West Bengal. They asked Rajanth Singh to take actions to pacify the violence. People accused the state government of muzzling the information.

Mamta Banerjee blamed Centre for these riots. She went on to assert that Centre was trying to impose President’s Rule in West Bengal. She also spoke about the Gorkhaland agitations in Darjeeling and attempted to appease the protesters.
