Congress may have ended up on third position in the recent MCD polls, their top leadership is looking at the results with hopeful eyes for the future.

Despite finishing on third position behind BJP and AAP, Congress could remain hopeful due to the increased vote share. In 2015 assembly elections, the party had got just 10% of the total votes. In the MCD elections, the vote share was more than doubled, with Congress having 21% votes in its favour.

Since the landslide victory of Aam Aadmi Party in 2015 in Delhi Assembly Elections, the party was seen as the number 1 competitor to BJP, at least in the capital. However, the declining vote share and not so positive feedback from the voters will make AAP rework on the strategies. At the same time, Congress could eye being the number 2 party in Delhi for the time to come.

The whole MCD campaign was projected as a battle between AAP and BJP. With such situations, Congress is not surprised with the results. However, the leaders were more interested in gaining a marginal vote share, which seems to have worked in the favour of the party.
