Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday met Prime Minister Modi and briefed him about the drought situation in Maharashtra.

He also sought speedy assistance from the Centre. In a couple of tweets, he said:

The Maharashtra government on October 23, declared a ‘drought-like situation’ in 180 tehsils of the state. (Also Read)

A  government report reveals that around 11,500 out of the total 40,000 villages in Maharashtra face acute water scarcity. The reasons include lesser rainfall and the resultant exploitation of the existing groundwater.

The situation acknowledges the looming agrarian crisis in the state of Maharashtra.
