The pressure for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu E Palaniswamy is building up as now even the opposition party DMK is demanding for the CM to prove his majority in the Tamil Nadu assembly.

After the EPS and OPS factions merged on the condition of expelling Sasikala and her family members from AIADMK, the political equations in Tamil Nadu seem to be changing every day. Following the merger, the party began its process of expelling Sasikala by sidelining the nephew of Sasikala and the former deputy general secretary of AIADMK, TT Dhinakaran. But on the contrary, this move of the party came as a boomerang to them as instead of Dhinakaran being sidelined, 21 MLAs from the party declared no confidence against the Chief Minister.

Dhinakaran along with the MLAs supporting him had met the Governor of Tamil Nadu and demanded the Chief Minister to prove his majority at the floor test.

As per the latest updates, after 21 MLAs rebelled against the CM and joined the Dhinakaran faction, the major opposition party DMK also demanded an immediate floor test of Palaniswamy. DMK Working President M.K. Stalin along with his party members on Sunday met the Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao and demanded immediate convening of the Assembly and asked the Chief Minister to prove his majority.

After the meeting with Governor Stalin in his statement to the media said that “if the governor did not convene the Assembly within a week, they would approach courts and the people’s court”. He claimed that the Palaniswamy led government has lost his majority as only of the total 233 MLAs in the house he has the support of only 116, while 119 have issued a no confidence against him.

Stalin while talking to the media also said that Dhinakaran along with his earlier support of 19 MLAs who are securely lodged in a resort near Pondicherry, had also met the Governor. An MLA from the Dhinakaran faction went back to support the CM but in return 3 other MLAs rebelled against Palaniswamy increasing the number to 21 in Dhinakaran faction.

MK Stalin said that “it was established by the Supreme Court judgment in the S.R. Bommai and Arunachal Pradesh cases that the Assembly was the place where a majority has to be proved and it was the Governor’s duty to convene the House for the purpose.” When asked by the reporters about the Governor’s response to the demand of floor test Stalin replied that Vidyasagar Rao has affirmed to abide by his duties. “I still hope that he will perform his duty and convene the House,” he added.

The opposition party leader has warned that if the Governor does not take action in a week’s time, DMK will be left with no option but to knock on the doors of the people’s court.
