The Union government has scrapped Article 370 and introduced Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019. Jammu and Kashmir will now cease to exist as a state and will now be bifurcated into 2 Union territories, one being Jammu & Kashmir and the other being Ladakh division. Jammu & Kashmir will now be one union territory with legislature while Ladakh will be another union territory without a legislature.
As quoted by ANI, Dinesh Gundu Rao told reporters, “It is a move that is going to be very harmful to the future of the country and for the unity of this country. It is going to have a huge impact on the entire country, not only Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP Government is playing with fire.”
Amid opposition uproar and a noisy session on Monday, Parliament passed the Bill with 125 votes in favor while 61 votes against it. Nationalist Congress Party abstained from the voting procedure in the house.
Congress party has also presented amendment notice opposing the passed Bill. Other prominent leaders of Congress have also raised their voice on similar lines. As quoted by ANI, The Ghulam Nabi Azad said in the house, ” Shameful that you have turned J&K into a non-entity by making a Lt Governor there, so that you can appoint even a peon or a clerk, sitting here (Delhi).”
The Congress party has further leveled the allegation that Article 370 scrapping will take away constitutional values and our rights. Dinesh Gundu Rao also said that the government is diverting people form real problems.
