Hours after Asom Gona Parishad sorted out differences with Bhartiya Janta Party and renewed it’s Poll tie-up for the Lok Sabha Polls 2019, its two leaders – Lachit Bardoloi and Hemen Borah extended their resignations expressing unhappiness over the decision.

Expressing his displeasure Lachit Bardoloi slammed AGP and termed it as ‘Opportunist’. He took to social media and said, “Thank you opportunistic AGP leaders, you have unmasked your and party’s fake regional character. You must not talk about our 855 martyrs from today onwards. Wiping out AGP from the heart. Time has come for all who believes in regionalism must be united” he wrote on social media as reported by News18.

While Party’s Legal Advisor Hemen Borah and party’s founding Leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who has been two times Chief Minister also expressed their unhappiness for going back with the BJP faction.

Speaking to the new portal, former Chief Minister Mahanta hit out at AGP for its decision to go on with BJP in a pre-poll tie-up. Slamming the BJP led Central Government, Mahanta said, ‘I have pledged my support for the implementation of Assam Accord. I am opposing BJP’s proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016″ He added Once this bill is cleared, Assam will be full of Bangladeshis’.

He further junks reports in local media that claimed Mahanta was pressing to go with an alliance with the BJP.

He further trained guns towards AGP for keeping him in dark while holding parleys with BJP to forge an alliance. Mahanta said, “Senior party Leaders had in 2016 also not shared with me the decision of forging an alliance with the BJP or on seat-sharing,”  He said while claiming that AGP never considered me to be important enough to be kept in the loop finalize poll pacts.
