Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Karnataka, Congress Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday morning called on party disgruntled MLA and State Minister MTB Nagaraj to convince him to take back his resignation.

Hoskote MLA MTB Nagaraj is among the two MLAs who resigned on Wednesday. Nagaraj along Chikballapur MLA Congress MLA Dr. K Sudhakar resigned from the Karnataka Assembly on July 10.

However, the Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had not accepted their resignations saying that that it cannot be done ‘overnight’.

Assembly Speaker had on July 10 told media that, ‘Two More MLAs – MTB Nagaraj and Dr. K Sudhakar have resigned. I have not accepted the resignation yet. I have asked both of them to meet me on July 17. I cannot do it ‘overnight’.

DK Shivakumar had earlier this week reached Mumbai to meet rebels. However, he was not allowed by Mumbai Police to meet and was later forcefully ‘deported’ to Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered Assembly Speaker to maintain status quo in connection with the resignation of 10 rebel MLAs of Congress and JD-S who tendered their resignation on Thursday. The Top Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that the Court will hear the matter again on Tuesday, July 16.

If the resignation of all the rebel MLAs accepted, then the strength of the ruling Congress and JD-S will come down to 103. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 106 MLAs.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday last week when 11 MLAs from CongressJD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation. And thereafter political episode and drama started in Karnataka.
