The Top Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a petition filed by BSP supremo Mayawati against the Election Commission’s ban for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The EC has bar the BSP Chief from Campaigning for the next 2 days starting from today 6 am.

Dushyant Dave appearing for Mayawati in the highest Court requested the court to hear the argument, as there were important meetings scheduled for the day.

The court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi has asked BSP Chief’s Counsel to file a separate appeal against the poll panel’s order.

Commenting on Poll Body’s recent ban on the politicians in Uttar Pradesh, Top Court said it seems like EC has finally woken up” and has but bar on various politicians from poll campaigning for varying hours.

Earlier, the Top Court filed hearing the plea filed by an NRI Yoga teacher based in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) asked the EC the actions taken against those involving the hate speeches. EC in respond said that the institution has very less power.

The Top Court hours before EC Ban Order on Politicians expressed displeasure over the Poll Body not taking quick action against politicians for communal and hate speeches.

Mayawati had on Monday evening hours after EC barred her from Campaigning for 48 hours reacted to the development. BSP Supremo hit back at the Election Panel terming the action as one-sided. Addressing the press on Monday evening, BSP supremo said, ‘Election Commission has given a one-sided decision. I have been denied the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression’. She called EC action as the black day in the history of the EC.

Terming it one-sided, BSP Chief said that the Poll Body has given us a chance of hearing barring from Campaigning is ‘unconstitutional’. She trained guns towards Bharatiya Janata Party Leaders and said her speech in Saharanpur was not was growing tension between two communities unlike UP CM Yogiadityanath’s.

The Election Commission had on Monday ban BSP Supremo Mayawati from Campaigning for 48 hours for making controversial remarks while addressing a rally. BSP Chief Mayawati while addressing a rally in Saharanpur’s Deoband made a communal appeal to Muslims, asked them not to allow a division of their votes.

Mayawati reportedly said that Mahagathbandhan is defeating BJP, and not the Congress, a want to make an appeal to Muslim voters not to allow division of votes’.

Taking a strong cognizance, the poll Commission earlier had served notice to Former UP CM and later barred her from Campaigning.

Apart from Mayawati, EC had on Monday ban UP CM Yogi Adityanath for 72 Hours, SP Leader Azam Khan for 72 hours while Union Minister Maneka Gandhi for 48 hours.

All the politician have been booked by the Poll Commission for violating the model code of conduct. General Elections have already started and 91 constituencies have voted on April 11. Uttar Pradesh will vote in all seven phases.
