The Election Commission has on Monday imposed a ban on Samajwadi Party Senior Leader Azam Khan and Union Minister and BJP nominee from Sultanpur Maneka Gandhi from election campaigning for 72 hours and 48 hours respectively.

The Poll Panel said that a ban on both the Leaders will be in effect from 10 am April 16. The Election Commission imposed a ban on both the leaders for violating the Model Code of Conduct by making objectionable and controversial statements in their rallies.

Earlier the Poll Panel had issued notices and asked both the Politicians to furnish a reply.

Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Maneka Gandhi has been ban from Campaigning after she made a controversial ‘anti-muslim’ remark while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur.

She reportedly said, ‘After elections, If any Muslim come to me asking for work, then I will think let it be, After all, a giving job is also a deal,” she said, while adding that Muslims here need to understand that she is not like others who will work for everyone without getting their support’.

She added that she will win anyhow, it’s you (Muslims) who have to decide whether they want to support her or not, If you need my services, do vote for me else no need of that.

While Samajwadi Party Staunch Leader Azam Khan has made a controversial remark in a rally at Rampur. Khan was under the scanner was making controversial for BJP candidate Jaya Prada.

Earlier in the day, the poll panel had ban Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati from election campaigning for 72 hours and 48 hours respectively.

Earlier, the Poll panel had issued a warning to UP CM Yogi Adityanath for politicizing the Indian Army by calling it ‘Modi ki Sena’.The EC has asked him to be more mindful of the instructions given by the EC and avoid any references to the defence forces during elections.

General Elections have already started and 91 constituencies have voted on April 11. Uttar Pradesh will vote in all seven phases.
