Taking a strong cognizance, The Poll Commission of India on Friday imposed a ban on Bharatiya Janata Party Himachal Pradesh State President Satpal Singh Satti from Campaigning for 48 hours his derogatory remarks against the Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

As per the Election Commission, Satti has been restricted from campaigning from 10 am today (Saturday). The action has been initiated as per the certain provision prescribed under the Model Code of Conduct.

Earlier, The Poll Commission had on Tuesday issued a notice to BJP State Chief asking him to file a response on the issue within 24 hours. Apart from serving notice to the BJP State Chief, the Poll Body had also filed a police complaint against the politician under Section 294 of Indian Penal Code.

Satti on Monday speaking in the Solan District of the state made derogatory remarks against Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi while attacking him over ‘Chowidaar Chor Hai’ Slogan.

However, BJP rejected the allegations and termed the video as edited. The BJP claimed that with video-editing, Congress is unnecessary misleading the people. While the workers of the Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday staged a protest outside District Collectorate Office against Satpal Singh Satti for making derogatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi.

Defending his state Chief, Bharatiya Janata Party Spokesperson Randhir Sharma said, “BJP State President Satti rather was narrating a post in which some people had used derogatory terms. He while speaking in the rally was advising party workers to be patient while commenting about any political leader’.

This is the fifth incident in a run-up to the polls in EC imposed a nationwide ban from Campaigning. Earlier this week on Monday, imposed a ban on Samajwadi Party Senior Leader Azam Khan, BJP Leader Maneka Gandhi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP Supremo Mayawati for varying hours.

Maneka Gandhi, Yogi Adityanath and Mayawati were booked by EC for making religious sensitive comments and seeking votes on the name of religion. While Samajwadi Party Leader was booked for making controversial remarks against BJP nominee from Rampur Jaya Prada.
