The Poll Commission of India on Thursday let off BJP Candidate Kirron Kher in connection with a complaint filed by the Indian National Congress nominee and Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal for using the word ‘Railgate’ in her poll campaign.

Pawan Kumar Bansal who filed a complaint with the Poll body alleged that the word ‘Railgate’ is used to defame him by his electoral opponent. The complaint filed by the Counsel of Pawan Kumar Bansal further asserted that he (Bansal) has been granted clean chit by several investigating agencies. Apart from this, he has been made a prosecution witness in alleged cases.

The Election Commission of India following the complaint, had on May 6 issued a show cause notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandigarh nominee Kirron Kher. She has been asked the furnish a response with 24 hours.

Bharatiya Janata Party nominee in her social media post while asserting the need of metro in Chandigarh said, “Also, because Kirron Kher is not interested in ‘Railgate’” to indirectly launched a salvo at her opponent Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Kher in her reply to the show cause notice said the word ‘Railgate’ was used with no reference to any individual.

Bharatiya Janata Party nominee and sitting MP Kirron Kher in a run-up to the national elections 2019 will be taking on Congress nominee and Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. AAP has nominated Former MP Harmohan Dhawan for the Lok Sabha Seat. Dhawan had in 1989 won the seat contesting on Janata Dal ticket.

Kirron Kher had in 2014 national elections defeated Pawan Kumar Bansal with a slim margin of 60,000 votes. Bansal had represented the seat three times in past since 1999.

General Elections have already begun and is being held across seven phases from April 11 to May 19. Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.

Chandigarh to elect a new Member of Parliament will vote on May 19 during seventh and the last phase of voting.
