Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the flying squad of the Election commission searched the chopper of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders BS Yeddyurappa at a helipad in Shivamogga in direction to the suspicion of illegal cash to influence the voters.

HD Kumaraswamy was traveling from Ramanagara in Uttara Kannada district to Kumta to attend a public rally in favor of the Janta Dal Secular JD(S) candidate Anand Asnotikar for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Apart from this, the luggage of BJP leader KS Eshwarappa was also searched by the Election Commission.

On Wednesday, seven Election commission officials checked Kumaraswamy’s chopper after he landed in Anavatti village for a public rally in the district.

Election Commission is yet to declare any seizures from the searches.

In the recent searches, Election commission and the Income Tax Department have confiscated ₹1.66 crores in cash during the search conducted across Karnataka.

Earlier election commission searched the premises of the opposition leaders in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, where the leaders of the opposition have alleged the Election commission of working at the behest of the ruling party. They have asked EC to justify their searches only in the premises of opposition whereas no searches have been conducted in the premises of the BJP leaders.

This is the first time that luggage of BJP leader was searched by the Election Commission.
