The Poll panel further said that it has examined the speech in detail as per the report it received from the Chief Electoral Office of Maharashtra.

The Congress party had on Friday approached the Poll Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in which he said the opposition party was “scared” to field its leaders from constituencies where majority dominates.

The party in the complaint alleged that the comments by PM Modi in a poll rally were “hateful and divisive”. Speaking to media after meeting the Poll panel, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, ‘PM Modi in his speech tried to spread hate to gain political mileage.

On receiving the complaint, the Poll Body had sought a factual report from Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra.

While earlier in the day, The Top Court issued a notice to Election Commission of India on the plea filed by Congress MP Sushmita Dev seeking Court Direction to EC to initiate action against PM Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Amit Shah for allegedly violating the Poll Code.

Congress in a run-up to the national elections had moved to the Poll Commission with multiple complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
