Lok Sabha Polls 2019: EC gives green signal to PM Modi in 2 more cases of alleged Poll Code Violation

The Poll Commission of India on Monday gave a green signal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in two more cases of an alleged violation of the model code of conduct. The Poll Body said that PM Modi roadshow in Ahmedabad after casting his vote on April 23 does not amount to the poll code violation.

Apart from this, EC also let him off for evoking Balakot Air Strikes issue in a rally at Chitradurga, Karnataka on April 9.

The Poll Commission said, ‘No violation of the model code of conduct or advisories issued by EC was found in these cases’ Sources believed that three-member panel gave a clean chit to Narendra Modi with 2:1 majority while Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa had dissented on the decision on PM Modi’s Chitradurga remarks apart from four other instances earlier.

With this, the Poll Body has till now has cleared Modi in a total of eight cases.

Last week, the Election Commission had cleared Narendra Modi in six cases saying that No violation of poll code was found in these cases. EC who has been ‘inactive’ against PM Modi had on May 3 started responding to complaints against PM Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah after SC Order.

EC said that PM Narendra Modi speeches in Latur and Wardha district of Maharashtra do not violate the model code of conduct. The Poll Commission had on Thursday also cleared PM over ‘Nuclear bomb for Diwali’ comment which he made in Barmer district of Rajasthan.

Supreme Court had on May 3 directed the Election Commission to decide before May 6, the 9 complaints filed by Congress party against PM Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. The Top Court order came on the plea filed by Congress MP Sushmita Dev seeking the court’s direction over ‘Inaction’ of the Poll Commission.

Congress had moved to the Poll Commission with multiple complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah. However, till now, EC gave 8 clean chits to PM Modi and two such to BJP Chief Amit Shah.

General Elections 2019 is being across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. The remaining 169 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in remaining three phases.

Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
