The Election Commission of India on Friday gave a green signal to PM Narendra Modi on two more complaints of the alleged violation of the model code of conduct. With this, the Poll Commission this week has altogether let off PM Modi in 5 cases of the alleged violation of the poll code.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a poll rally on April 6 in Nanded town of Maharashtra slammed Congress President Rahul Gandhi. He reportedly accused Gandhi of contesting from the seat (Wayanad in Kerela) where the ‘minority’ is in ‘majority’.

PM Modi’s speech sparked massive criticism from the Opposition Congress who later lodged a complaint against the Prime Minister with the Poll Commission.

However, the Poll Commission of India on Friday said that the PM Modi speech of April did not violate the poll code. Apart from this, Poll Commission of India also let off go Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Amit Shah in two cases of the alleged violation of Model code of conduct. ‘No such violation of MCC or ECI’s instructions is made out’, said Poll Body.

Amit Shah had on April 9 made a similar remark while addressing a poll rally in Nagpur.

Supreme Court had on May 3 directed the Election Commission to decide before May 6, the 9 complaints filed by Congress party against PM Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. The Top Court order came on the plea filed by Congress MP Sushmita Dev seeking the court’s direction over ‘Inaction’ of the Poll Commission.

It should be noted that the Poll Commission in the past 2-3 days has granted 3 ‘clean chits’ to PM Modi over his election speeches. EC said that PM Narendra Modi speeches in Latur and Wardha district of Maharashtra do not violate the model code of conduct. The Poll Commission had on Thursday also cleared PM over ‘Nuclear bomb for Diwali’ comment which he made in Barmer district of Rajasthan.

Congress had moved to the Poll Commission with multiple complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah. However, till now, EC gave 5 clean chits to PM Modi and two such to BJP Chief Amit Shah.

General Elections 2019 is being across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. The remaining 169 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in remaining three phases.

Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
