The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi for violation of Model Code of Conduct over Congress’ NYAY banner put up on a wall in Amethi parliamentary seat.

The Poll Commission said that banner was put up without the permission of the owner of the building.

Rahul Gandhi has been asked to file a reply within 24 hours.

NYAY or the minimum Income Guarantee is the party’s flagship promise in a run-up to the national elections. The party with this aimed to give financial assistance of Rs 72000 to every poor family if voted to power.

While in another development, the Election Commission on Thursday banned the Madhya Pradesh Congress committees’ Central poll campaign that was using ‘Chowkidar chor hai.’ slogans to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Madhya Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a complaint to the Election Commission and submitted an audio and video where Congress leaders were seen using the slogan ‘chowkidar Chor hai’. Taking the BJP’s complaint into consideration, the Election commission banned the campaign.

General Elections have already begun on April 11 and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19.

Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.
