The Poll Commission of India on Monday ordered an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Party Asansol Candidate Babul Supriyo for allegedly trespassing into polling booth 199 during the voting of Phase-IV on Monday. He had allegedly threatened the poll officials who were doing election doing.

Babul Supriyo who is seeking his second term from Asansol Lok Sabha Seat is pitched against Trinamool Congress nominee Moon Moon Sen. While CPI(M) has named Gourango Chattopadhyay, Congress named Biswajit Mondal for the mega polls 2019.

Supriyo had in 2014 national polls defeated Dola Sen of TMC with a margin of around 70,000 votes.

Sources familiar with the development said, ‘Babul Supriyo on Monday at 9:15 am entered a polling booth 199 at Kashidanga FP School under Barabani police station. He was accompanied by his security guards and complaint that the polling agent of Bharatiya Janata Party was not allowed to sit. However his entry was resisted by poll officials, and Security present, He has allegedly pushed them physically and entered the booth’.

The Development came hours after the West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress knocked EC and registered a complaint against BJP Candidate Babul Supriyo and seek poll body intervention on the whole issue. TMC also alleged Babul Supriyo of the altercation with poll officials at the polling stations.

Trinamool Congress in a letter to Election Commission stated that ‘There were various instances where on instructions of BJP leaders, Central Forces acted in a manner which is not conducive to free & fair elections in West Bengal’.

While earlier in the day BJP Candidate from Asansol Babul Supriyo‘s car was vandalized by when he was sitting inside in the car by the Trinamool Congress workers. Speaking to media, Supriyo said,’ BJP in the state is fighting to establish democracy’ adding that, voters are not being allowed to vote free.

Just like in the initial three phases, Voting in the fourth phase of the state held amidst clashes and violence. Over 66% voter turnout was recorded in the state

General Elections 2019 is being held across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. All 42 parliamentary seats of the state will go to polls in all seven phases till May 19.

Phase-V is slated for May 6. Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
