Re-polling in one booth Puducherry parliamentary constituency will be held on May 12, an Election Commission (EC) official said on Wednesday. The Poll Commission also declared the previous polls votes as ‘void’. The Election Commission in an order on Wednesday said that polling will be done on May 12 between 7 am to 6 pm.

The Election Commission has further directed the returning officer to ensure that wide publicity should be given about the fresh polls. Poll Observers has been directed to inform the political parties and other contesting candidates.

The Election Commission order to returning officer stated, ‘After taking all material circumstances into account, the Election Commission hereby declares under Sub-Sections (2) of Section 58 of clause (b) under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that
the poll taken on April 18, 2019, at Polling Station No. 10 of 10-Kamraj Nagar Assembly Segment of Puducherry parliamentary constituency to be void.”

The lone seat of Puducherry went to polls on April 18 along with 39 Lok Sabha Seats of Tamil Nadu. Congress has named V. Vaithilingam against AIADMK-BJP combine Candidate K. Narayanasamy of All India NR Congress.

The Seat is currently held by R Radhakrishnan of All India NR Congress.

The Election Commission also ordered re-polling at 13 booths in five parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu on May 19.

While the Poll Commission also ordered re-polling in 168 Polling Booths of Tripura West Parliamentary Seat. 

The Election Commission earlier on April 17 deferred polling in the Tripura East Lok Sabha Seat from April 18 to April 23 citing “law and order situation.”. Tripura has two Lok Sabha Seats, Tripura West, and Tripura East Parliamentary Seat.

General Elections 2019 is being across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. The remaining 118 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in remaining two phases.

Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
