In a move to conduct the upcoming Polls in a free and fair manner, the Election Commission of India has banned all political advertisements in newspapers on the poll day and day before polling in Assam. As per the Poll body officials, political advertisement needs pre-certified from the concerned authorities at the state or district level.

As per the press statement released by the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, No Candidate or Political parties is allowed to publish any advertisement in newspaper pf any type of media on the day of polling and day before polling unless it is pre-certified from the concerned authorities at the state or district level.

It added that any advertisement can only be published after it gets a nod from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the state or district level of the state. The Media Certification and Monitoring Committee is tasked to examine and give its approval on all such advertisements received from any political parties or by any Candidate.

Assam that sends 14 parliamentarians to the lower house will go to polls in three phases – April 11, April 18 and April 23. The restricted days of Advertisement in Assam are April 10 and April 11 for Phase First, April 17 and April 18 for Phase Second and for the third Phase the restricted days April 22 and April 23.

General Elections 2019 are slated to begin from April 11 and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19.

Earlier in January this year, EC in a move to tighten reins on media campaigns asked Centre to block Political Ads 48 hours before voting.

Election Commission had on March 10 declared schedule for General Elections 2019. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP won 7, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress on 3 seats each while 1 seat goes to Independent Candidate.
