election commission of India

The all party meeting with officials of election commission turned out to be an eventful one. Election commission officials stated that EC will give a chance to the political parties to prove tempering with the recently used EVMs.

While speaking to the political parties, Nasim Zaidi, chief election commissioner told political parties that a challenge is on the cards. This was the first time that an EC official was confirming so called “hackathon”. There were representatives of 56 political parties, including 7 national parties and 49 regional parties.

He further said that EVMs with VVPAT will further increase credibility and trust among voters and will make the process more transparent, however, EC is also working on the lines to hold a challenge. The challenge will be to give a chance to prove that EVMs can be tempered in such tight securities at the elections.

Though Nasim Zaidi did not talk of a particular date on which he plans to hold the challenge, the ongoing controversy suggests that it will take place soon. Chief of EC also stated that it has no favourites and all parties are treated equally.

The clarification of being equidistant from all political parties came in reply to the recent allegations made by Arvind Kejriwal, who had alleged 2 EC commissioners to be close to BJP and favouring the party.
